Regular Town Board Meeting

June 12, 2023

 

Chairman Darrel Fehr called the meeting to order on June 12, 2023 at 7:00 pm. The supervisor present 

was Matt Borofka. Other officers present: Vicki Freeberg-clerk and Jan Thorson –treasurer.

Recitation of Pledge of Allegiance by delegation present.

Certification of proper posting for the scheduled town board meeting: The notice for the June 12, 2023 board meeting was duly posted in the 3 designated places within the Town of Cooks Valley on June 9, 2023.

 

Public Comment: Discussion on when to meet at town hall to finish moving. Decided to meet at 1:00 pm Monday June 19 to get pictures and bulletin boards hung, flags put up and anything else that needed finishing up. 

Discussion and possible action on budget categories: U-134 Electric budgeted $800 spent $819.57. Darrel Fehr made a motion to move $1000 from Contingency fund to U-134. Matt Borofka seconded the motion. Motion carried 2-0

Approval of the May 8 Town Board and June 2 special meeting minutes – Matt Borofka made a motion to approve minutes for both meetings. Darrel Fehr seconded the motion. The motion carried 2-0.

Reading by Treasurer of May financial report: Ending balance on May 31, 2023 of  $111,610.24 and total cash on hand $205,434.48.

Reading and Approval of the May bills: Darrel Fehr made a motion to approve check vouchers  #5860 - 5875 for payment of the May bills. Matt Borofka seconded the motion. The motion carried 2-0.

Building/driveway permits: Mike Sarauer, steel roof on barn & Jay Thomley to build shed

Discussion and possible action relating to the plan commission: Did not meet 

Discussion and possible to approval of liquor, beer, cigarette, licenses and operator applications – Darrel Fehr made a motion to approve licenses and operator permits for both Valley Tavern and Bloomer Rod & Gun. Matt Borofka seconded the motion. The motion carried 2-0.

Discussion and possible action to approve change order for 135th Ave Chip seal project – Darrel Fehr made a motion to approve the change order from Scott Construction on chip seal project for 135th Ave. They will use the bigger rock at a cost of $85,000 instead of the original bid of $81,906. Matt Borofka seconded the motion. The motion carried 2-0

Discussion and possible action to purchase tables for town hall – Darrel Fehr made a motion to purchase 6 tables from Menards for the town hall. Matt Borofka seconded the motion. The motion carried 2-0

Discussion and possible action to increase insurance coverage on town hall contents up from $11,000 – Darrel Fehr made a motion to change coverage on town hall contents to $15,000. Matt Borofka seconded the motion. The motion carried 2-0

Discussion and possible approval of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church picnic license – Darrel Fehr made a motion to approve the picnic license for St John Catholic Church. Matt Borofka seconded the motion. The motion carried 2-0

Chairman’s report: – Fire Dept./Roads: no fires, Darrel and Tom Yakesh did some road patching, received a letter from Chippewa county for Purfrac which canceled their NMM permit and the approved reclamation plan, Vicki Freeberg will get a document ready for Purfrac to cancel mine permit with township. Rod Thorson presented detailed report on recycling for the current year.  

 

Dissemination of Information- clerk’s report:  received warranty letter from TL Sinz plumbing for one year, First Choice sent a revised charge sheet for recyclables, so some things will be zero charge, town hall has been rented for June 25th and July 14th.                                                                                                                       

Future agenda items and business: Pledge of Allegiance, discussion and possible action on: Budget categories,  minutes of June 12, 2023 regular meeting approved, Treasurers financial report, June bills, building permits, concerns pertaining to the Plan Commission

The next regular town meeting is scheduled for – July 10, 2023 at 7:00 pm 

Adjourn:  Darrel Fehr made a motion to adjourn at 7:32 pm. Matt Borofka seconded the motion. Motion carried 2-0.
