Regular Town Board Meeting

May 13, 2024

 

Chairman Darrel Fehr called the meeting to order on May 13, 2024 at 7:00 pm. The supervisor present 

was Matt Borofka. Other officers present: Vicki Freeberg-clerk and Jan Thorson –treasurer.

Recitation of Pledge of Allegiance by delegation present.

Certification of proper posting for the scheduled town board meeting: The notice for the May 13, 2024 board meeting was duly posted in the 3 designated places within the Town of Cooks Valley on May 9, 2024.

 

Public Comment: None

 

Discussion and possible approval to accept bid for crack sealing: Darrel Fehr made a motion to award bid to Superior Sealers for crack sealing on 50th Street (1.74 mi), 186th Ave east of Cty Hwy DD (1.75 mi) and 60th ST south of Hwy 40 to county Rd C (2.72 mi) at a total cost of $31,722.00. Matt Borofka seconded the motion. Motion carried 2-0.

Other bids received from Seal Tech, Fahrner and Thunder Road were over the budget for this project and were rejected.

Discussion and possible action on budget categories: None

Approval of the April 8, 2024 board meeting minutes  – Matt Borofka made a motion to approve minutes for April 8 board meeting minutes.  Darrel Fehr seconded the motion. The motion carried 2-0.

Reading by Treasurer of April financial report: Ending balance on April 30, 2024 of $201,522.47 and total cash on hand $296,562.94. 

 

Reading and Approval of the April bills: Darrel Fehr made a motion to approve check vouchers  #6090 - 6104 for payment of the April bills. Matt Borofka seconded the motion. The motion carried 2-0.

 

Building/driveway permits: driveway permit received for Lindsay Diver

 

Chairman’s report: car accident on HWY 40/155th Ave which resulted in fatality, fire on Culver farm with tractor and feed mixer, accident on corner of Hwy DD by Darrel Fehr home. Darrel attended unit meeting at Tilden with talk on County regulations for ATV travel on roads. Township may increase speed limit from 35 to 45 to coincide with County.

 

Recycling report by Rod Thorson – monthly report for township recycling and demo costs, recycling is close to even with money collected versus cost but the demo is still running several hundred dollars below cost. Rod gave a report on progress of culvert inspections for the State.

 

Dissemination of Information:  letter from Rural Mutual of a refund on Workmans Comp premium of $65, switching to QB online would be cheaper for the first year but then price would be the same as the QB desktop so as of now will stay with the QB desktop but will check with other townships to see if there is an alternative program we can use, graduation party at townhall on Saturday May 18.               

Future agenda items and business: Pledge of Allegiance, discussion and possible action on: Budget categories,  minutes of May 13, 2024 regular meeting approved, Treasurers financial report, May bills, building permits, concerns pertaining to the Plan Commission, May 28th is the Open book from 12-2pm and June 4th is BOR from 2-4pm at town hall, Board approval of liquor and operator licenses for 2 establishments

 

The next regular town meeting is scheduled for – June 10, 2024 at 7:00 pm 

 

Adjourn:  Darrel Fehr made a motion to adjourn at 7:54 pm. Matt Borofka seconded the motion. Motion carried 2-0.
