Regular Town Board Meeting

February 18, 2008

Chairman Ron Fanetti called the meeting to order on February 18, 2008 at 7:30 pm.  The supervisors present were: David Clements and Gary Yakesh.  Delegation present were:  Victoria Trinko-clerk, Eunice Steinmetz-treasurer, Vernon Steinmetz, Clarence Shakal, Lynette Hunt, Clifford Hunt, Bob Irwin, and David LaGesse.
PUBLIC COMMENT: Clarence Shakal, with sorrow, was asked to tell the town board that Orville “Butch” Paulson, our assessor, had died.  He informed us that the office is vacant; the clerk has 5 days to have a sworn oath after appointing an assessor.  Chairman Ron Fanetti related to Clarence Shakal we had knowledge of Butch’s demise and had contacted an assessor the family had requested to assume Orville’s position and duties.  David LaGesse wondered when building permits are picked up by the assessor to be assessed. 
Gary Yakesh made a motion to accept and place on file the minutes of the January 14, 2008 regular meeting and the minutes of the Public Hearing meeting January 14, 2008.  David Clements seconded the motion.  The motion carried 3-0. 
David Clements made a motion to approve the February financial report.  Gary Yakesh seconded the motion.  The motion carried 3-0. 
Gary Yakesh made a motion to approve the payment of the January bills.  David Clements seconded the motion.  The motion carried 3-0.   It was noted the township has $28,000.00 for snowplowing this season without the inclusion of the last three snow days.
Ron Fanetti made a motion to remove $300.00 from highway construction in the budget and transferred to A-101 Assessor Salary to be in compliance with the contract the township and the assessor.  David Clements seconded the motion.  The motion carried 3-0.
Ron Fanetti made a motion to table discussion and possible action on establishment of an annual motile home park fee/resolution to the March regular town meeting.  Gary Yakesh seconded the motion.  The motion carried 3-0.
Lynette Hunt, representing Julie Anderl-candidate for judgeship, explained her 13 years working with Julie, Julie’s emphasis is on fairness with people coming to court, partnering with school districts and youth, has done community service at Agnes’ Table.  She encouraged to vote tomorrow and again in April. 
PUBLIC COMMENT:  Dick Thomas, a close friend of Orville Paulson’s family, was asked by Orville’s family to recommend Bob Irwin to assume the duties and responsibilities of Orville as assessor of the Township of Cooks Valley.  The town board informed Bob Irwin to bring a proposal to the March Town Board meeting and some houses need to be looked at again.  He informed the board that records are not available to him at this time.  The contract will be binding with Bob Irwin as the one we had with Orville Paulson.

ADJOURN: Gary Yakesh made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:40 p.m.  David Clements seconded the motion.  The motion carried 3-0.
